The label becomes part of the container wall. No glue line, no secondary label applicator, no drying tunnel. That sounds simple. On the line, it is a different story.

I have spent years balancing cycle time, scrap, and customer deadlines. IML is not a magic switch. It changes how you plan moulds, label magazines, static control, and QC. When it fits, the result is a container that looks good after washing, freezing, or sweating in a chiller. When it does not, you feel it in the reject bin.

Where In Mould Labels Fit in Plastic Container Production

It makes less sense for a limited-edition promotion that will sell for eight weeks.

Before quoting a new IML project, I want four answers: container geometry, resin, label material, and expected annual volume. Geometry decides whether a label can be placed without wrinkling. Resin and label material decide whether the bond will hold through washing, freezing, or hot filling. Volume decides whether the tooling can be amortised. Miss any one of these and the project can still run, but it will run with workarounds.
